BSWD Fun Run

August 23, 2016/in Fun Runs, Latest News /by Darryl

Hi all,

Looks like we’re in for a nice cool week and it feels like a touch of fall in the air now.  Some snow on those fires and we’ll be set.  This week’s fun run is a pot luck at Jackie’s house.  We’ll meet Wednesday at 6:30 pm for the run with a 1, 3, and 5 mile option.  To get to Jackie’s from downtown take Wilson south.  Follow Wilson through the light at Kagy as it becomes S. 3rd.  Turn left on Hill Street, then right on Highland Court, and it’s right there.  Bring a dish to share!

The awesome cool air brings to mind the John Colter run to be held September 17.  The past few weeks we’ve been out working on the trail.  We cut the bushes on the trail near the river crossings, flag the course, build rock cairns, and re-furbish the existing cairns and signs.  We try to mark it with interesting and natural materials, along with a few beer bottles marked with survey flagging.  We still have some open spots, so if you haven’t signed up yet, we have a great run, two river crossings, bbq, live music and great prizes.

I took this photo yesterday while working on the John Colter trail.  A black cat kept us company for several miles.  It seemed like he appreciated our rock cairns, but maybe he was just hungry.

See you on Wednesday!

BSWD Fun Run

August 15, 2016/in Fun Runs, Latest News /by Darryl

Hi all,

First, congratulations to everyone that ran the Bridger Ridge Run this week end, thanks to all those that came out to help, and thanks to all those that came out on course to support the runners.  What a great community event!

This week’s run will be our second dog run at Bear Canyon.  We will meet Wednesday at 6:30 for a 1, 3, and 5, mile option.  To get there, you can either take the interstate or the Bozeman Trail Road out to Mt Ellis Academy, by the KOA Campground 5 miles east of Bozeman.  Then turn south on Bear Canyon road.  The road will continue for 3.5 miles to the parking area.

The next big event for us is the John Colter Run on September 17th. This run is approximately 7 miles of mostly trails and two great water crossings, We will have live music, great prizes, good food, and lots of fun. We still have about 100 open spots, so be sure to get signed up! We will also need some volunteers and you can talk to me or Kurt Buchl to help us out.

I had a pretty good Ridge Run this week end going in to it with a bit of a bum knee, but felt good at Bridger so I went on.  It was nice over Saddle Peak with cloud cover and a cool breeze.  Thanks to every one that came out to support us, both on race day as well as before with all of the preparations.  See you on Wednesday.  My photo is one I took earlier this month on top of Sacajawea Peak looking at the Ridge course.

This Week Fun Run

August 8, 2016/in Fun Runs, Latest News /by Darryl
Hi all,
Time kind of got away from me this week!  Our good friend Bob Wade had a full hip replacement yesterday so I’ve been spending some time with him.  Tomorrow night’s (Wednesday) fun run will be a trail run at Middle Cottonwood Trail. It’s actually one of my favorite trail runs.  We will meet at the Middle Cottonwood trailhead 6:30 pm and will have the usual 1, 3, and 5 mile courses on trails.
To get to the trailhead:
From downtown, take Main west to 7th. Take 7th north out of town, following as it turns into I-90 Frontage. Turn right on Springhill Rd, take Springhill 1.5 miles north then turn right on Sypes Canyon Road across from Springhill Sod Farm sign. Take Springhill 1.5 miles then take a hard left on Summer Cutoff Road. Follow Summer Cutoff 1.1 miles until it intersects Saddle Mountain Road. Turn right on Saddle Mountain and go 1.5 mi on Saddle Mt Rd to end. Turn left on Forest Service road to Middle Cottonwood trailhead (watch for trailhead signs).
Thanks to all those that ran the Sweet Pea Run and those that came out to help with sign-ups or on the course!  We had a very good turnout this year.  This is the run that really supports us..
We’ve had many sign-ups for the John Colter Run this week, but we still have lots of room. This great run is September 17th at Headwaters State Park, with 7 trail miles, 2 river crossings, great free BBQ, music, and prizes!  Sign up at RaceMontana.com.
And many thanks to all who have come out and helped this year with the Bridger Ridge Run.  Those who carried water, the volunteers that will be working the aid stations this week end and all of the organizers.  It promises to be a great run with some outstanding athletes.  Please come out anywhere on the course or at the finish!  For me this run is more of a journey, carrying water, early morning runs, and all the preparations.  It’s such a great community event.
See you all on Wednesday!   Daryl
