Fun Run – South Side Trails with BBQ
/0 Comments/in All Events, BSWD Summer Fun Runs /by TomasRun along the Sourdough Trail in South Bozeman, as well as many connector trails around the Graf Street neighborhoods, including Tuckerman Park and Grafs Park.
From downtown, take Willson past Kagy, as it becomes South 3rd Avenue. Just before the 3-way stop, turn left onto Graf Street. Turn left off Graf onto E. Fieldview Circle (this will be the northern intersection of Graf and Fieldview Circle).
Following the run, there will be a cookout hosted at Kurt Buchl’s house (15 E. Fieldview). We will provide burgers and brats, and some drinks. If you can, bring along a side or dessert to share, and BYOB.
Fun Run – Bear Canyon
/0 Comments/in All Events, BSWD Summer Fun Runs /by TomasOne of Frank Dougher’s favorite runs of the year! We offer 1-, 3-, and 5-ish mile options up the Bear Creek drainage on trails and dirt roads. These runs are great hill work-outs – and (bonus!) the last half is all downhill!
You can bring your favorite 4-legged, cold-nosed friend along for the run! Just please remember that dogs need to be leashed to participate! We look forward to seeing you!
Fun Run – Hyalite Reservoir
/0 Comments/in All Events, BSWD Summer Fun Runs /by TomasA great break from the summer heat! These runs follow forested trails along the western shore of Hyalite Reservoir, 2000 feet above town. Come enjoy the mountains!
Runs start from the reservoir parking lot (before the dam). To get there, take South 19th Avenue south from town, bending westward at the base of the mountains. The Hyalite Canyon turnoff is 5.8 miles south of the Kagy-19th intersection. Turn left onto the Hyalite Canyon Road, and drive up to the reservoir parking on your right, about 9.5 miles up Hyalite Canyon Road from the turn-off.
Fun Run – South Cottonwood
/0 Comments/in BSWD Summer Fun Runs /by TomasOne of our most popular runs! From the South Cottonwood Canyon trailhead, head up initial switchbacks, then parallel South Cottonwood Creek upstream to your desired turn-around: at the first bridge for the short course, second bridge for the medium, or third bridge for the long!
To reach the trailhead, take South 19th Avenue south, then west until it dead-ends at Cottonwood Road. Turn left and go south, then west, to Cottonwood Canyon Road on the left; turn left and follow for about a mile and a half to the trailhead parking at road closure.
This is a popular trailhead, and the parking lot fills frequently. Please consider meeting at the designated carpooling location and carpooling with others to the run!
Fun Run – Triple Tree
/0 Comments/in All Events, BSWD Summer Fun Runs /by TomasOne of our members’ favorites! This trail wanders a hilly course through open fields with good views of the valley, through wooded areas teeming with wildlife, and into forests on the northern fringe of the Custer-Gallatin National Forest. Be prepared for significant amounts of climbing on this one!
To reach the trailhead, take Sourdough Road south just past the turn-off into the Triple Tree housing complex. Please try to carpool, as the parking lot at the trailhead overflows regularly!

Fun Run – Bozeman Creek (Sourdough Canyon TH)
/0 Comments/in All Events, BSWD Summer Fun Runs /by TomasCome for one of our most unique and popular runs! This is a “no watch” run – no watches or other timing devices allowed! You will run up the ever-popular Sourdough (Bozeman) Creek trail, and turn around whenever you think you need to, in order to get back to the start at your selected time – there will be options to choose the 15-minute, 30-minute, or 45-minute option. Whoever comes closest to their selected time, wins (there will be one winner for each of the 15, 30, and 45 minute “races”)!
This is also a designated Dog Run, so feel free to bring your 4-legged-friend along! Please be sure, however, to keep your pet on a leash, and clean up after your dog. Those running with a pet are asked to wait 2 minutes after the start before hitting the trail, so that excited pups don’t interfere with the biggest group of runners!
To reach the trailhead, head south on South 19th Avenue. At Nash, turn L, and drive to the Sourdough Canyon Road (follow brown sign to the trailhead). Carpoolers can get a ride from Stockman Bank on S. 19th.
